Someone once told me, the grass is much greener 🍃
As told by Ginger is a television series, debuted on Nickelodeon in October 2000. Ginger is a teenager navigating adolescence. Each season presents new challenges. There are moments of humiliation, excitement and confusion. At the end of each episode, Ginger journals her experiences. Each entry reflects the struggles of the human experience.
It’s hard to know if our choices will lead to our desired outcome. The story of twenty-something’s differ, yet common questions seem to resonate with us all. Who am I? Who do I want to be? Who am I becoming? Do I matter? Am I loved? The emotional process behind these propositions, are complicated. Intensified by a digital age where options seem plentiful. We need to be intentional about creating meaning in our lives.
Change is a constant theme. Transitions for some at this time lead to heartbreak, new love, divorce or personal transformation. There are no right, or wrong turns, only moments of redirection and course correction.
In an age where information abounds, we can choose to make the change, or remain as we are. The reality of change is that along the way, we will let people go. This can feel destabilising and frightening. It’s hard to contend with, yet we are faced with an urge to move beyond ourselves. Freedom exists on the other side of discomfort, as our behaviours and values transform. I write from experience. The last three years were filled with more change than I knew what to with. Ginger’s journalling continues, until the final episode of the series. Ginger’s evolution was remarkable, at times she was heroine, friend and foe. She approached each challenge with curiosity, courage and hope. This didn’t prevent difficulties from arising, but humility and openness led to growth and healing.
The opening theme song of as told by ginger:
“Someone once told me the grass is much greener, on the other side. And I paid a visit (well it’s possible I missed it), it seemed different yet exactly the same. Til further notice, I’m in-between, from where I’m standing, my grass is green”.
We are always in-between. Embracing our unique journey, brings peace. We can enjoy each moment, without wishing we were someone else, doing something else. Peace can give us inner safety; an assurance that we are enough. Peace can be experienced by engaging with each moment, completely as you are.
